Welcome to "Can We Talk?"
A safe place to breathe, reflect, & belong!

"Can We Talk?" is a no-cost mental health support program designed for Black women aged 50 and older in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Through guided therapy sessions facilitated by licensed counselors, the program provides a safe, confidential space for participants to share their experiences, receive emotional support, and develop strategies to improve their mental well-being. By addressing systemic challenges, reducing stigma around mental health, and removing financial barriers to therapy, "Can We Talk?" empowers women to navigate life’s demands while fostering a sense of connection, healing, and resilience

 Who We Are:

Over lunch one afternoon, two friends, Claudia and Roz, found themselves deep in conversation about a topic close to their hearts: the mental health of Black women. As they talked, they reflected on the many barriers that have long made it difficult for Black women to access the care and support they deserve, from limited resources and a lack of culturally competent therapists to financial constraints, stigma, and the fear of judgment from family or friends.

Their conversation lit a spark. Both women agreed: the time for change is now, and they felt called to be part of the solution. Yet, they also recognized that this work couldn't be done alone. Roz had recently connected with Dr. Darla Timbo, a psychologist and licensed professional counselor whose passion and expertise in mental health made her the ideal person to help bring their vision to life.

Dr. Timbo wholeheartedly embraced the mission, bringing her warmth, wisdom, and clinical experience to guide this powerful and much-needed space.

The
Mission

Working to destigmatize mental health among Black women ages 50+, “Can We Talk?” promotes growth and wellness by providing education, support, guidance, and resources. We are committed to fostering mental health and wellness by addressing stigma and empowering women to embrace their well-being.

The

The vision of “Can We Talk?” is to become a major source of support for Black women aged 50+ living in Allegheny County and beyond. Through a supportive group model, we provide a safe and welcoming space for women to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment.
